This page explains how to delete your KitchensGuardian account, what is deleted, and what we keep. Developer: KitchensGuardian, Inc. App: KitchensGuardian (Google Play and Apple App Store).
Delete your account in the app
- Open KitchensGuardian and sign in.
- Open the side menu and choose Delete Account, or go to Profile and choose Delete Account. Either one opens the same confirmation dialog.
- Read the notice about what is kept, then confirm.
- Your account is deleted immediately. You are signed out, your push notifications stop, and the app clears its local data (cached photos, preferences and sign-in token) from your phone. Your answer to the ad-measurement question stays, because it belongs to the phone, not the account. In app versions that offer Google app analytics, that separate choice also stays. Account deletion clears the local setup-screen markers.
You do not need to contact us. If the in-app option fails or you cannot sign in, use the email route below.
Request deletion without the app
If you no longer have the app, or cannot sign in:
- Send an email to support@kitchensguardian.com from the email address on your KitchensGuardian account.
- Use the subject line: Delete my account
- We will reply to that same address to confirm the request is really from you. Reply to confirm.
- We delete the account within 30 days of your confirmation and send you a final confirmation email.
If you signed up with Google or Apple sign-in, write from the email address attached to that Google or Apple account. If you used Apple’s “Hide My Email”, write from the address Apple created for you, or tell us the private relay address shown in your Apple ID settings. If we cannot verify you own the account, we will ask for more information before deleting, so that nobody can delete someone else’s account.
Before you delete
- Cancel your subscription first in the App Store or Google Play. Deleting your account does not cancel a store subscription. See our Subscription Terms.
- If you host a kitchen that other people use, it becomes read-only for them when your account is deleted, until a remaining member with their own active subscription takes ownership, which reopens it. To avoid the break, hand it over first: open the side menu, choose Kitchens, then Manage ownership under the kitchen. The member you choose needs their own active subscription.
- If you want a copy of your data, email us before deleting. There is no in-app export yet. Email us and we will send you a JSON copy within 30 days.
- Deletion cannot be undone. A new account with the same email starts from zero.
What is deleted
When your account is deleted we remove the personal account data listed below. Google app analytics already received is handled separately, as explained under What we keep, and for how long.
- your account record: email address, first and last name, profile photo, password hash, verification and reset codes, subscription status, country, currency and unit settings
- your sign-in data for Google or Apple sign-in held on our side: the email address and name the provider shared with us, and Apple’s identifier for your account and the encrypted Apple sign-in token. We also tell Apple to end the app’s access.
- your push notification token and device registration, so no more notifications are sent to your phone
- your memberships in all kitchens; you disappear from the member list of any kitchen you shared
- kitchens where you are the only member, including all their items, pantries, setup sessions, consumption data, receipt records and recipes
- your scan history and your scan corrections
- item add requests you made or reviewed
- grocery lists you created
- favourite recipes and meal plans you created
- invitations addressed to you, and invitations you sent, including your name on them
- your sign-in sessions: existing tokens are revoked
- receipt text from a first scan before you pay that is still in our temporary store. If that store can’t be reached at that moment, the text still expires within an hour.
- your subscriber record at RevenueCat, the service we use to check purchases with the store, including the billing identifier for your account
- your user document in Firebase Firestore (display name, push token) and the records stored under it
- data stored on your phone by the app, when you delete from inside the app, except your answer to the ad-measurement question and, in app versions that offer it, your separate Google app-analytics choice. The local setup-screen markers are deleted.
What we keep, and for how long
Some data remains after deletion. We want to be clear about it.
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Data you added to kitchens that still have other members: pantry items, receipt records, recipes, meal plans, consumption data. | That data belongs to the shared kitchen and its remaining members. You are removed from the member list, and the items you added are no longer marked as added by you. | While that kitchen exists, under the control of its remaining members |
| Anonymous shared data built from everyone’s scans: normalised line text, product codes, store chain name, package size and type, category, shelf life, the price, currency, country, the month of the scan, and aggregate counts. | So the next person who scans the same item gets a faster, more accurate result, and to improve the app and train our own future models | Up to 120 days for line and item caches; about 90 days for estimates; indefinitely for the ingredient catalog, recipe cache and training log. This data holds no user id, kitchen id, receipt id, email, name, device token, IP address, photo, card digits, loyalty numbers, cashier names, store branch details or transaction ids, so it cannot be traced to you and there is nothing to delete. |
| Server logs with your IP address and request details (no email, codes, receipt text or tokens) | Security and debugging | Up to 30 days |
| Database backups | Disaster recovery | 7 days; deleted data disappears from backups as they expire, and we never restore it to the live service |
| Records needed for legal, tax or accounting reasons, for example purchase records | Legal obligation | As long as the law requires |
| Temporary scan results in our cache | Already scheduled to expire | Up to 30 days after the scan; not linked to any account after deletion |
| A one-way hash of Apple’s identifier for you, only if Apple told us you stopped using Sign in with Apple with our app or deleted your Apple account | So an old Apple sign-in cannot be used again | Indefinitely, linked to no account |
| Google app analytics already received, only if you allowed it | Deleting your KitchensGuardian account does not automatically submit a deletion request for this analytics data. The app currently offers no individual control for deleting earlier analytics from Google’s servers. Contact support@kitchensguardian.com about an analytics privacy request. We assess requests based on our ability to identify the relevant records and the deletion tools Google makes available; we cannot promise to match them by email alone or erase them automatically. Turning Google app analytics off stops future collection and resets local analytics data, but does not delete earlier events from Google’s servers. | See our Privacy Policy, section 11, for the applicable retention period and limits. Previously aggregated reports may remain. |
Receipt, fridge and pantry photos are deleted as soon as each scan finishes, and the temporary copy expires automatically within 15 minutes whatever happens. So there are no photos of yours to delete from our servers. Photos cached on your phone are removed when you delete from inside the app, or when you uninstall.
What we do not keep after deletion: your email address, your name, your password hash, your profile photo, your sign-in sessions, your push token, your scan history, your corrections, or any way to log in as you.
Deleting only some of your data
You can delete individual pantry items, lists, recipes and meal plans in the app at any time.
Deleting only your scan history while keeping your account is not available in the app today. Photos are not retained on our servers, so there is nothing to delete there. If you want your scan history removed while keeping your account, email support@kitchensguardian.com with the subject “Delete my scan history” and we will do it for you.
Deleting a kitchen but keeping your account
As a host, you can delete a kitchen from the kitchen settings. This removes the kitchen’s items, lists, recipes, setup sessions and consumption data for all members. Members cannot delete a kitchen; they can leave it. If you cannot find these options, email support@kitchensguardian.com and we will do it for you.
